Essential Oil Headache Recipe 1

All this talk about Essential Oil recipes, I want to add a few essential oil recipes I use for headaches / migraines.

A couple things to note:
1. The first time you try an essential oil, you will have a stronger reaction.  The first time I tried Lavender, it actually gave me a bit of a headache and felt VERY WARM on the back of my neck.  This no longer happens.  I always tell people to try the oil for 10 days before making a decision.
2. Skin sensitivity – some people, especially children, will have skin sensitivity to non-diluted oils.  I use fractionated coconut oil in my daughter’s roller bottles.  You can always start by diluting and then adding extra drops of EO to your mixture if you feel you want it stronger.
3. Smell sensitivity – When I have a migraine, this is huge for me.  Open the bottle and smell.  Then add a drop to a cotton ball and inhale deeply.  This way you will know if the oil just will not work with the current symptoms.

Early Signs of Migraine:

  1. Put a couple drops of Frankincense at the roof of your mouth.  This can be diluted in olive oil, sweet almond oil, or coconut oil if it is too strong.
  2. Rub a couple drops of Peppermint Oil on the back of your neck.
  3. Rub a couple drops of Frankincense on your temples.

I have no scent reactions to these three oils so I can use these no matter what stage of migraine I am in.

4.  Lavender – I cannot to lavender once the smell sensitivity of a migraine kicks in.  If it is early, I will place a couple drops of lavender on the back of my neck or on my chest.

Roller Ball:

10 Drops Peppermint
6 Drops Lavender
6 Drops Frankincense (Eucalyptus is a potential substitution)
Fill remaining with fractionated coconut oil and keep in your purse / pocket to rub on temples and neck at onset of headache.

Past Tense:

This is a specific roller ball sold by DoTerra but I carry it with me ALL THE TIME and use for tension and headaches.  It’s awesome.
